  • The SBA Postponed This Year's National Small Business Week
  • We should  be celebrating and recognizing small businesses this week; however, the COVID-19 crisis required a change in plans. The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is obviously focused on supporting the CARES Act programs, in addition to their normal SBA programs. National Small Business Week has been postponed.

For more than 50 years, the President of the United States has issued a proclamation announcing National Small Business Week, which recognizes the critical contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners.

More than half of Americans either own or work for a small business, and they create about two out of every three new jobs in the U.S. each year.

Sadly, the small business landscape is changing dramatically.

Many small businesses were already fragile. It is estimated that 50% of them had less than two weeks of cash on hand. The coronavirus impact made it unmanageable to pay employees, rent, insurance, utilities or other expenses for a sustained period.

It is very true when we say, “We are in this together.”  The inter-connectedness of every business is felt across the economy. And together we will survive and we will thrive again.

While we won’t be “celebrating” National Small Business Week this first week of May, we do celebrate and honor the entrepreneurs, risk-takers, small business owners and individuals who are the backbone of the U.S. economy.

For help and resources please see SBA.gov or contact the SBDC at FGCU.

If you are able to support a local business, please do so! We need them.

    Stay strong!

If we at Edison Business Advisors can be of any assistance please contact us.
